If the world is changed by adding more kindness or understanding, or compassion, then I’m glad I wrote the book.
“We all have to work harder to live together…” Some just tell me they realize the importance of being kind. Some readers have told me they’d decided to work in medicine or therapy. They tell me they have thought about the importance of kindness and empathy, and even inclusion.
From letters I’ve received from young people, they tell me that the book made them think about the lives of others, about those who functioned differently in the world. Although it has been read by many children and adults, I certainly have no illusions that the book has changed public awareness.
